The Cottonwood Springs Trail is in the Albert G. Simms Park/ Elena Gallegos Picnic area and provides a 1/4-mile trail that leads to a pond that is fed by a natural spring. There are several shaded rest areas along the paved trail and interpretive tile art panels created by PAPNM member Margy O’Brien. Area wildlife includes horned owls, deer, frogs and a variety of songbirds. Paint Cottonwood trees, the Sandias and surrounding foothills.
Meet at 6 p.m. Sunday, August 21 in the parking area. The park is open until 9 p.m. Restrooms are available. There is a $2 per car entrance fee.

DIRECTIONS:
In Albuquerque, take I-40 to the Tramway exit (exit 167). Head north on Tramway Blvd. for about 6 miles and turn east on Simms Park Rd. Stop at the entrance booth and pay the $2 (weekend) per car fee to enter Elena Gallegos Picnic Area. Follow the road counter-clockwise around the entrance booth and head north. This road will end at the trailhead.
