The Hubbell House was originally the private residence of James L. (Santiago) Hubbell and Juliana Gutierrez-Hubbell and their twelve children; it later served at various times as a trading post, a stagecoach stop and the local Post Office. It is located along El Camino Real, the oldest continuously used European roadway in North America. The name comes from the family who built it in the years following the Civil War. Besides the historic house there are lovely grounds and possibly an acequia to paint. Large trees provide shade.
Abuelita’s restaurant is nearby at 6083 Isleta Blvd. and would be a possible place to have lunch. If you care to take a tour of the house there is a $3 fee or $2 for seniors. Otherwise there is no fee for painting on the grounds. The parking lot is always open.
