    Hello Friends,

The tradition continues!!! The annual Fall Workshop has become a tremendous success. I wish to invite you to participate in this great plein air painting workshop. I will again teach my 3 day Plein Air workshop in the mountains outside of Taos NM, September 21-23, 2021.

This workshop will take place in the heart of the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains just 19 miles south of Taos. The workshop is for all skill levels from beginner to professional. We work outside all week.

I will do demos to show you how to get started and then we will all get going. I’ll focus individually on helping you improve from whatever skill level you are currently at to the next level. We will touch on all aspects of painting outside: from choosing subject matter, composition, mixing colors, to seeing your subject and laying the paint down.

All you will need to bring is a great attitude, a desire to learn to paint from nature and your supplies, of course (I’ll send a materials list to all those attending).

September is the most beautiful time of year in northern New Mexico, with the turning of the Aspen and Cottonwood trees, crisp mountain mornings, perfect blue skies, mountain trout streams and endless subject matter.

The cost of the workshop is $450 for 3 days with a $150 deposit to hold your space. There is lodging available in the area or take the 30 minute drive from Taos each day.

    Registration now open.

    Dates: Sept 21-23, 2021

Price: $450 (Deposit: $150) Last day to cancel: August 21, 2021. Deposits cannot be returned after this date.

    Artist Statement:

Ms. Anita Louise West has had a passion for painting from an early age. She graduated with a BA in Art from Missouri University. Ms. West went on to study at the Kansas City Art Institute on scholarship and earned a teaching certificate at the graduate level at UMKC. Teaching in public schools in Kansas, California and Texas, she continued to study and paint using oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastel.

Landscape painting on location helped to simplify the subject matter and paint without hesitation, and study the changing conditions of weather and light outdoors.

Anita’s fluency in all mediums and subject matter helps facilitate her students’ growth.

Having been a professional painter and business owner since 1989, Anita moved to Santa Fe, NM in 1993 where she was introduced to the national art world. She painted and taught workshops throughout the United States as well as Spain, France and Canada.

Returning to her childhood dream of painting in New York in 2007, Anita studied at the Art Students League with Mary Beth Mackenzie, Daniel Greene, Nelson Shanks and Richard Schmid. This experience in the studio helped her appreciate figure and portrait work as well as Plein Air painting. Co-author of Painting the Landscape in Pastel, Ms. West is capable of explaining and simplifying the materials and methods of painting in all mediums. To register,  please visit:
