PAPNM long-time member, Janet Amtmann, has helped form the new Otero Arts Organization, a 501C 3 non-profit organization in Alamogordo:

    https://www.oteroarts.org/

    From Janet:

"...since March of 2022, we have been holding monthly art exhibitions by artists from around the Southern New Mexico area.

We have received grants from New Mexico Arts, the latest being for 2023-2024 to support our arts programs.  Then most recently we received a grant from the Devasthali Family Foundation and the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico specifically for "Visual Arts".

It's been a lot of fun working with artists to help them show their work  at our renovated 1937 WPA building (formerly the Women's Club of Alamogordo).  When the club disbanded some years ago, the county, who owns the building, renovated it and offered it to Otero Arts as a venue for art and cultural programs.

I was one of the founding members and currently serve as Vice President and chair of the Otero Arts Committee.

So despite leaving lovely Santa Fe and all my artist friends there and in Albuquerque, I've managed to find lots of inspiring artists here in Alamogordo and environs.  I've dreamed of hosting a plein air workshop here, and am pleased that my former teacher and friend, Anita Louise West has agreed to host the plein air workshop for us." (See Member Workshops)

Congratulations, Janet, on your efforts to organize an arts' group in another part of this state.

What a great article-by Michael Doragi! I highly recommend it. So inspiring with so much information for any artist. I've read several of her bio's but this one gets as close as I've ever seen one get to the -shall I say- essence of the artist.

The article contains a step-by-step demo by Michele. And Michele's painting that was at the Legends' Gallery -but has since sold- is in the article along with many other excellent paintings.

    From Peggy:

    ENDLESS SUNSHINE ......

You ever notice how summer just walks in, all bright and cheerful, like it owns the place? Even with temperatures soaring, there's something undeniably magical about this time of year. The monsoons decided to show up fashionably late, the hay's been cut and baled and Steve and I are gearing up for our biennial show, "Side by Side", at Wilder Nightingale Fine Art right here in Taos. Mark your calendars. September 2nd is the day it all kicks off! So, if you've got a hankering for some art and a good time, swing by the opening reception or just pop in for a visit.
